This is a website operated by TEDXATHENS EVENT COMPANY (hereinafter “TEDxAthens”, “we”, “our” or “us”) registered in Greece, Athens, Evristhenos 2, 11854 with e-mail address: info@tedxathens.com.

We, as a Data Controller, take your privacy very seriously and make every effort to safeguard your personal data. This privacy policy is intended to inform you which personal data we process and for which purposes, how we protect it, who are the recipients of your personal data and which are your rights as a data subject.

  1. What information we collect & how we collect it

Through our website, our forms and our social media accounts, as well as our conferences, we collect information that may identify you, directly or indirectly. In specific:

Website usage: We collect personal data via the relevant online forms that you choose to complete, such as your name, your e-mail address, and other optional information (e.g. preferences, interests etc.). We also collect information on your site activity when you favourite, save or watch TEDxAthens talks.

Conference attendance: When required for TEDxAthens conference registration through our website or other partner websites (i.e. More.com or other ticketing services used by TEDxAthens), we collect and process your personal data including, but not limited to, your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address, and others such as preferences, attended workshops, chosen activities and photos. At times you may be asked to provide additional data, as long as it is strictly necessary to do so and always according to the data protection principles.

Tracking information: We may also collect this type of information which relates to how many views are counted for each TEDxAthens talk and how many times TEDxAthens talks are saved or favourited. Our website automatically stores information about the usage, popularity, and positive or negative impact. We perform statistical analyses of users of the site, and their viewing and participation patterns, for product development purposes and to generally to inform advertisers about the nature of our audience.

Device Data: We may collect information about the computer, mobile device or other device you use to access our website, such as IP address, date and time of access, geolocation information, unique device identifiers, browser type, browser language and other preferences.

Cookies: We use cookies and various technologies, such as Google Analytics cookies, to manage our website www.tedxathens.com  and track the use of the content we provide, as well as Facebook to help us better target advertising on platforms that market TEDxAthens to their users. We use your personal data only to the extent necessary for the purposes mentioned below and always according to a legal basis as per the GDPR and the applicable Greek legislation. In specific:

  • Provision of requested services: We may use the data to fulfil your requests for services and information. For example, using your contact information to respond to your requests, process the information you submit through our forms, etc.
  • Conference registration & organisation: We process personal information to evaluate the application for attending a TEDxAthens conference or event, process payment through our third-party vendors that manage secure payment processing, manage the information required for planning and running events, including exhibits, activities, parties and meals, communicate with attendees for topics pertaining to conference/event.
  • Communication: We use your personal data to send you newsletters via e-mail, or information about our conference and other TEDxAthens events (if you have opted in for this information.
  • Legal enforcement: We may use the data to prevent illegal activities, to enforce our website terms of use, or as otherwise required by the applicable law.
  • Behavioral advertising: In order to help TEDxAthens better market on third party platforms, we work with third parties to collect information about your use of our website so that we can provide advertising about our offerings (such as products and services) tailored to your interests, including free educational resources and content recommendations. That advertising may appear either on our website, on our apps, or on other websites.
  • Program specific uses: In addition to the purposes identified above, we may use your personal information for any other purposes disclosed to you at the time we collect your data or pursuant to your consent, such as applications for various TEDxAthens programs, nomination forms and other requests.
  • TEDxAthens Speakers & Performers: We also collect and processes personal information to evaluate nominations for TEDxAthens speakers and performers and communicate with them.
  • TEDxAthens Volunteers: We also collect and processes personal information to evaluate nominations for TEDxAthens volunteers and communicate with applicants in the event they are selected for an interview or requested further information.

 

  1. Retention of personal data

We will retain your personal data for no longer than is necessary to fulfil the business purposes, explicitly presented above. The precise retention period depends on the data processing purpose. Those periods are also based on the requirements of applicable data protection laws, applicable legal and regulatory requirements and periods relating to the commencement of legal actions.   1. Personal data of underaged children

We do not knowingly collect personal information of children under 15 without verifiable parental consent. If we learn that we have collected any personal information from a child without verifiable parental consent, we will delete it from our database as quickly as possible. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal data, or if  you believe that we may have collected information from an underaged child, please contact us at privacy@texathens.com.

We may disclose your personal information to third parties who act on our behalf, such as our website provider. This might happen in order to process the personal data for the business purposes outlined above. We may also disclose your personal data to a third party if necessary to fulfil a request you have made or transaction you have initiated, or if we are required to do so because of an applicable law, court order or governmental regulation, or if such disclosure is otherwise necessary to support any criminal or legal investigation or proceeding. We will not sell your personal data to third parties.

You, as a data subject, may exercise the rights provided by GDPR in relation to your personal data. In specific you have the right to access your personal data, the right to rectification, the right to erasure, the right to restriction of processing and the right to object to the processing. You also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time in case you have provided such to us. If we make any material changes, you will be notified by means of a notice on our website prior to the change becoming effective. By continuing to use our website after changes are made to this privacy policy, you agree to such changes.
