Thodoris Anagnostopoulos

Host presenter

Theo Anagnostopoulos is a science engager, a social entrepreneur and a National Geographic Explorer who has travelled to 108 countries across six continents. He was the TEDxAthens host presenter in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. His work, particularly in underprivileged areas, focuses on combating scientific illiteracy via large-scale awareness projects and empowering educators and students through STEM education. Under his leadership as co-founder and general manager, SciCo—an international non-profit aiming to simplify science and promote science education—has reached more than 400,000 people across over 300 high-impact international outreach activities and programs. These include the Athens Science
Festival, Mind the Lab, Generation Next, and Celebrity Science, amongst others. Theo has been systematically working with the remote Pomak population in the Eastern Balkans, and with school children in remote islands of Greece, Southern Albania, and Eastern Tanzania. He holds a Ph.D. in medical genetics from King’s College London and is currently a visiting researcher at Leiden University’s Department of Science Communication in the Netherlands. He is an Ashoka Fellow and received the 2017 British Council UK Alumni Social Impact Award, the 2019 Newcastle University Alumni Impact Award, and the 2019 Mariano Gago European Network of Science Centers and Museums Award. In 2022, he was also listed in the by the Explorers Club of New York as one of the 50 Individuals who are Changing the World.
